About This Tour
Discover the beauty and charm that southern Mississippi has to offer. Early April brings out blooms of azaleas and magnolias, with pops of color from dogwoods hiding in the forest. The Natchez Trace, Vicksburg, Port Gibson and Natchez are rich in Antebellum history.
Bike routes here suit any level of cyclist: the smooth, quiet road surface of the Natchez Trace and quiet streets in small towns. The tour starts just north of Jackson, Mississippi, the heart of the Deep South, and heads south on the Natchez Trace into small cities and towns.
Along the way you will see dozens of historical markers, the site of the first gunshot of the Civil War, ancient burial grounds, and the history of enslaved people and their triumph to freedom.
This tour is timed for the beginning of spring, so you avoid the vacationers and tourists. If you like quiet roads, wonderfully warm innkeepers and an abundance of American history, this is a perfect tour.
Tour highlights: Vicksburg National Military Park, the Natchez Trace Parkway, historic Natchez and the Windsor Ruins.
Travel: fly into Jackson, Mississippi (Medgar Evers International); shuttle pick-up at 2 PM. Fly out of Jackson; drop-off at 2 PM.
Accommodations: Hyatt Place Ridgeland, Oak Hall B&B, Isabella B&B and the Natchez Grand.
Orientation: 5:00 PM the evening before we ride.
Special Note: If driving, the meeting point is the Hyatt Place, Ridgeland, MS. We cannot accommodate tricycles on this tour, and we allow only 3 e-bikes per tour.
