About This Tour

Rider Requirements: Must maintain a daily average pace of 10-15 mph.
The perfect place to enjoy some flat coastal riding.

The Outer Banks of North Carolina offers perfect cycling conditions along hundreds of miles of undeveloped seashore, fresh gourmet seafood, beach-combing and plenty of relaxation. Our ride winds through the marshlands, where we will see an abundance of bird life in the creeks and grasses. We will be bordered on the east by the Atlantic Ocean and on the west by Pamlico Sound.
We start our adventure on tiny Bald Head Island where we adventure onto the creeks with a little kayaking and an island tour of migrating waterbirds presented by the Island Conservacy. This little island is just 6 miles long and offers surface streets that are traveled only by golf carts. This is a wonderful warm up for the next 6 days of cycling.
The tour is more than cycling. There is history on the Outer Banks ranging from shipwrecks to pirate tales and wild horses descended from the Spanish herds brought to this country hundreds of years ago. We’ll follow along the network of lighthouses and life-saving stations that served these waters known as “The Graveyard of the Atlantic.” Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is the most famous. We’ll also visit Bodie Island, Hatteras, Ocracoke and Old Baldy Lighthouses.
